Head of IT Department, Usha Martin Academy

It is doubtful that you are likely to come across a more qualified gentleman to handle an IT
department, than Mr Nabarun Saha of the Usha Martin Academy. A B.Tech from one of the Premier
Universities of the country, Jadavpur University, it is only the sheer passion for teaching,
and the shared belief with UMA that high quality technical education should be made available to
the youth of lesser known suburbs and townships, which has brought Mr Saha to look after the IT
department of Usha Martin Academy.

"I started my career with NIIT as Junior Consultant, IT, all the while nursing a burning desire to teach. I grew to Senior Consultant in due course of time, and in the meanwhile began teaching as well. Soon I began taking lessons for corporate batches; that's when I found out that certification was a mandatory part for teaching. Also during this phase, I was called in for the development of an in-house software called EdCore. Infact, I headed the development of the accounting part of the software, with absolutely no idea of accounts! That's when I discovered that ERP was one big umbrella and Implementation was just a part of it. Both these situations urged me to increase my knowledge-base and I decided to educate myself, accordingly."

And once he got started, there was no stopping him. His numerous accreditations include Microsoft Certified Solution Developer (MCSD), Systems Engineer (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Design Associate (CCDA). As a certified ERP implementer, Mr. Nabarun Saha has extensive experience as Team Leader for implementation in projects of companies like GE, Pantaloon, Shoppers Stop, GKG Sunglasses and Titagarh Wagons.

Mr. Nabarun Saha feels that if there is an organisation capable of changing the face of education in the tier-2 and tier-3 townships of India, it is the Usha Martin Academy, which already has more than 3000 centres Pan-India. It is this unflinching conviction that has driven Mr. Saha to dedicate himself to the dual task of IT-implementation and teaching at Usha Martin Academy. Over and above this, Mr. Saha shoulders the added responsibilities of Scheduling, profiling the time spent by faculty members of the UMA centres, contributing to subject matter, upgradation of the IT-infrastructure and the absolutely critical Faculty Development Workshops.

"Among my colleagues at UMA, I'm known to be slightly stubborn," Mr. Saha confesses with a smile. "The last 2 years at Usha Martin Academy has been like moving across the contours of India, from South to North – the hurdles have grown consistently in numbers as well as degree-of- difficulty. But then so has Usha Martin Academy. There is a direct connection between the stature of an institution, and the hurdles and challenges it faces… and more the challenges, the greater the fun in solving them!".
