UMA honoured for excellence
Having been awarded a certificate of honour by Punjab Technical University, Usha Martin Academy (UMA) Ranchi isn’t about to rest on its laurels.
The academy was honoured by the university for its new enrolments in the
courses offered by PTU under its distance education department and for
overall academic performance by its students in 2011.
Dean of UMA Ranchi Campus, Dr. Viplaw Kishore Pandey, indicated the academy intends to continue building its brand as a centre of excellence.
“UMA intends to recruit and retain outstanding faculty and graduate
students and introduce new courses, while enhancing its core capabilities
and signature courses,” said Dr. Pandey.
He said they will also focus on research excellence and creating a wide network of alumni to assist the academy.
“UMA imparts not only quality education but also a sound personal-value
base for professionals,” said Dr. Pandey.
The academy is unique in that it is industry driven, he mentioned, and has a
pool of outstanding faculties from various institutions across the country.
The UMA culture aims at creating a cohesive relationship between
the mentor and student, said Dr. Pandey, creating an environment of
collaborative and blended learning.
Dr. Pandey also noted that- “UMA has the distinction of a faculty that
blends academic rigor with rich industry experience.” Teaching methods
are “a mix of advanced conceptual inputs in the form of lectures, group
discussions, case studies etc.”
Dr. Pandey stressed “Knowledge without integrity is dangerous and integrity
without knowledge is useless - you need both and UMA will certainly show
you the way. In UMA we don’t do miracles, we try to do small things which
are within our reach but definitely resulting in big changes and learning.”
UMA’s philosophy is: The first step in the acquisition of wisdom is silence,
the second listening, the third memory, the fourth practice and the fifth
teaching others.
